The Bristol Bears Academy aims to unite and inspire our community through rugby.
Since 2001, multiple Academy players have featured for Bristol in the topflight and at Championship level, with a number of players representing England at U16, U18 and U20 level. This is a level of success on which the Academy hopes to build in the new era of Bristol Bears.
A number of current Bears Senior Academy players have represented their respective national teams. Blake Boyland and Will Capon have represented England U20s and U18s, whilst Jack Bates and Charlie Powell have represented England U18s. Ioan Lloyd has represented Wales at both U18 and U20 level.
Further honours have followed in the 2019/20 season seeing a number of U18s representing their countries; Tom Wilstead, Deago Bailey, Charlie Rice, George Taylor and Andrew Turner were all selected for England development camps. As well, Chay Mullins and Jac Lloyd were also selected for the Ireland U18s and Wales U18s squad respectively.
Former Bristol graduates in the England senior squad include Dave Attwood, Ellis Genge and Mako Vunipola while Luke Eves and Callum Braley are former captains of England U20s.
In any one season around 900 players aged U13 to U18 are engaged in the Developing Player Programme (DPP) and Player Development Group (PDG), with regular coaching sessions around the catchment area.
The Academy fixture lists are comprehensive and include regular tournaments across the country. With the addition of the Premiership Shield, the next generation of Bristol Bears players will continue to be exposed to the highest standards of rugby.
