Academy U16s impress in Sixways triple-header

Three Academy U16 teams were in action against Worcester Warriors at Sixways during the October half-term.

Xledger are principal partner of the Bristol Bears Academy.

Bristol-based Xledger provides cloud-based finance software for mid-market organisations. With more than 10,000 customers in over 60 countries, the Bristol office is currently embarking on a period of significant expansion.

More than 400 boys competed in a number of Xledger sponsored internal games, spread over the five days.

“The whole aim of the week was for boys and coaches to be able to benchmark their learning and progress,” said Gary Townsend, Bristol Bears Junior Academy Manager.

“It provides the boys with the opportunity to see the breadth and depth of the Bears programme, and for us to see them in a competitive environment, with and against different players.”

The week finished with three Academy U16s squads travelling up to Sixways to play in back-to-back fixtures against Warriors U16s in front of a crowd of nearly 500 supporters.

“The boys have missed a good deal of this level of rugby due to Covid,” added Townsend.

“It is so important that they get the opportunity to challenge themselves and learn by competing against the best.

“The coaches and I are pleased with the overall performance from this exciting group of young Bears, and are very grateful to Worcester for their hospitality, and to Xledger for their continued support.”
