Academy U18s return to action with derby clash

Bristol Bears U18s will make a long awaited return to competitive rugby, as development games get underway behind-closed-doors this weekend.

After a challenging twelve months without rugby, Gethin Watts’ side can look forward to back-to-back fixtures as Bath visit Shaftesbury Park on Saturday (1.15pm KO), before another derby clash with Exeter on Friday, May 7th (7.45pm KO).

Bristol include Jac Lloyd – who has signed a Senior Academy contract with the club - at fly half, while five of the 2021/22 scholarship programme also earn starts. Jamie Collier will skipper the side from the back row.

Senior Academy Manager Watts said: “It’s fantastic to finally get some development games underway. The guys have worked so hard over a really difficult year so we’re delighted to see them back out on the field.

“Long term planning and alignment are key aspects of the Bears development programme, so we’re using these fixtures to look at a high number of our U17 group also that will stay with the squad next season.

“Our principal partner, Xledger, have supported the programme brilliantly and it’s allowed us to enhance the provisions that we have in place.”

Please note, these fixtures are not open to spectactors.
