Academy Youngsters Presented With Tour Shirts

Youngsters from Bristol Rugby Academy U14/15 were presented with their playing shirts for their forthcoming tour of Portugal during the half-time interval of last Friday’s Aviva Premiership clash with Gloucester at Ashton Gate.

Chief executive Steve Gorvett carried out the presentation in front of the South Stand, as the teams prepare for their second trip to the Lisboa International Youth Festival having competed in and won the festival last year.

“Winning the festival wasn’t, and isn’t a target for us – but success is,” said tour organiser, Gary Townsend, who heads up Bristol’s Junior Academy.

“Yes, the boys were pleased to win the festival, and a handsome Pyrex shield, but the final was actually our worst performance, as we tightened up a little, despite the coaches best efforts."

“Up to that point, the boys played with a freedom that had caught the eye of our hosts, and which was such a feature our play, leading to the final – which was streamed live for parents.”

“The focus remains the connection of the boys with each other, with the programme as a whole and with Bristol Rugby.

“Our success last year was not measured in results of the game but in performance on and off the field, and to leave a lasting, positive impression for our hosts and for each other.”
