Wales international Alisha Butchers has joined Bristol Bears Women to bolster Kim Oliver’s back row options.
The 23-year-old has represented her country 28 times in the 15-woman code of the game, as well as in the Wales 7s programme.
Butchers made her international bow back in 2016 and has developed into an integral cog in the Welsh pack with her tireless work rate and ferocious energy with ball in hand.
“Alisha is a fierce competitor who will add even more quality to our back row department”, said Oliver.
“She has huge potential and has already shown that she can perform consistently on the international stage despite only being 23 years old.
“She’s an intelligent player on both sides of the ball with a great engine to keep her going throughout the eighty minutes, and I’m sure she’ll add real value to our playing group.”
The flanker also started for the Barbarians FC Women in their 34-33 victory over the USA Eagles in 2019 alongside her new Bristol Bears teammates, Elinor Snowsill and Jasmine Joyce.
“I’m really looking forward to joining the Bristol Bears family”, said Butcher
“I think this move will only help me grow as an all-round player with the coaching and facility set-up in place at the club.
“There are a few Welsh girls at the club and having spoken to them I only heard positive things and I’m excited for the season to come.”
