As it happened: Bristol Bears 22-35 La Rochelle

Three tries in 17 second-half minutes saw Bristol Bears fall to a 22-35 defeat at the hands of high-flying Top 14 side, La Rochelle at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

Harry Thacker, Jake Heenan, Tom Pincus and Charlie Powell crossed for Pat Lam's side to earn a consolation bonus-point, but the French side proved too strong for Bristol with a dominant display after the break.

6 minsTRY5-0 – Harry Thacker rumbles over to give Bristol an early lead after impressive driving lineout from the home side. Sheedy's conversion fades wide.

11 minsCHANCE – A let off for Bristol as La Rochelle number eight, Victor Vito spills the ball with line at his mercy.

18 minsTRY10-0 - That is a beautiful try. Charlie Powell takes the outside arc to get Bristol in behind, and after a powerful carry from Jack Lam in midfield, Sheedy glides outside defender and feeds the supporting Jake Heenan to slide over.

19 minsTRY10-7 – Bristol fail to deal with the resulting restart and Gregory Aldritt steams on to short pass from Tawera Kerr-Barlow to touch down. Lafage converts.

23 minsCHANCE – Harry Thacker breaks clear but is unable to locate Will Hurrell in support and the chance goes begging.

39 minsTRY10-14 – Romain Sazy gets on the end of a break from Unai Antonio to fly over on stroke of half-time and edge La Rochelle into a narrow lead. Lafage converts.

TRY10-21 - Early strike in the second-half for the French side, as a sweeping set-piece move sees Jules Favre fly over on the right-hand side. Lafage converts.

48 minsTRY10-28 – A double blow for Bristol as Vincent Rattez storms away for La Rochelle’s bonus-point score to extend their lead to 18 points. Lafage converts.

62 minsTRY10-35 – It's five for La Rochelle, as Jeremy Sinzelle collects Marc Andreu’s offload to dash over after sustained pressure inside the Bristol 22. Lafage converts.

67 minsTRY15-35 - Bristol hit back and it's Tom Pincus soaring through the air to collect Sheedy’s pin-point cross-field kick and score Bristol’s third try.

77 minsTRY22-35 – The bonus-point is in the bag late on, albeit a consolation for Bristol. Academy wing, Charlie Powell collects Piers O’Conor’s delightful offload to sprint in from 50 metres, with Sheedy adding the conversion from out wide.
