As it happened: Bristol Bears 37-20 Bordeaux-Bègles

Bristol Bears needed extra time to make their first-ever European final as they beat Bordeaux-Begles 37-20 in a thrilling Challenge Cup clash on Friday night.

Matthieu Jalibert's try and penalties saw Bordeaux race into a 13-0 lead, but tries from Steven Luatua and Max Malins put the Bears in control in normal time before Joseph Dweba levelled late on.

With the scores tied at 20-20 after normal time, tries from Piers O'Conor and Malins saw Bristol triumph.

12 mins – TRY – 0-7 – Woki breaks through the ruck and offloads to Jalibert who races in at the corner. Lucu converts.

26 mins – PEN – 0-10 – Jalibert knocks over penalty after sustained period of attack from Bordeaux.

29 mins – PEN – 0-13 – Morahan isolated and is penalised for holding on. Jalibert lands another kick to extend Bordeaux lead.

38 mins – TRY – 7-13 - Bust from Leiua on the left and when ball is moved back the other way, Radradra’s outside arc sends Luatua over.

53 mins – TRY DISALLOWED – Hughes thinks he’s scored but referee gives a double movement and disallows the try.

58 mins – PEN – 17-13 – Scrum penalty to the Bears and Sheedy booms the kick over from long range.

62 mins – PEN – 20-13 – Radradra breaks on the outside arc again and feeds Morahan. Bordeaux offside and Sheedy extends Bears’ lead to seven points.

64 mins – PEN MISSED – 20-13 – Crossing given against Vui and Thacker but Botica’s kick drifts wide.

67 mins – TRY – 20-20 – Dweba picks a neat line to go over and level the scores. Botica converts.

82 mins – TRY – 27-20 – O’Conor steps off his left foot and races in under the posts. Conversion added by Sheedy.

86 mins – TRY – 34-20 – Uren steals the loose ball and breaks before ball is moved wide to Radradra, whose quick transfer finds Malins to surely seal victory for Bristol.
