As it happened: Bristol Bears 52-3 Brive

Bristol Bears secured a first ever home European quarter final with a seven-try thrashing of Brive at Ashton Gate, as Pat Lam’s men reached the knockout stages for the second successive season.

Piers O’Conor and Dave Attwood scored to give Bristol a commanding 14-point lead at the interval, before the home side side cut loose after the break, with five second-half tries maintaining their 100% record in Pool Four.

Alapati Leiua, Sam Bedlow, Luke Hamilton, Will Capon and Mat Protheroe all touched down to take Bristol through the 50-point barrier

11 mins – CHANCE – Protheroe comes close to scoring, before Randall sells a dummy but knocks on as he tries to ground the ball, with penalty advantage.

12 mins – PEN – 3-0 – Sheedy lands resulting penalty from under the sticks to give Bristol an early lead.

13 mins – TRY – 10-0 – Beautifully worked opening score from the hosts, as Sheedy and Hamilton combine with Thomas to break the line, and Morahan speeds away to send O’Conor in. Sheedy converts.

52 mins – TRY – 31-3 – Glorious team try, as Leiua makes the initial surge and Woolmore gets his arm free to send Bedlow over. Sheedy converts.

58 mins – TRY – 38-3 – Attwood gets a delightful offload away and Hamilton touches down for a fifth Bristol try. Sheedy converts.
