Ashton Gate And First Bristol Announce New Bus Links For Stadium

Bristol Rugby's partnership with First Bristol will continue during the 2016/17 campaign, with additional routes to Ashton Gate added.

Building on the service set up in 2014, First Bristol will launch two new matchday services for supporters, with the popular North Bristol route from Horfield Common continuing.

As well as new service from Portway Park and Ride to Ashton Gate, serving all bus stops along the Portway, First Bristol will provide a new direct service operating non-stop between Bristol Temple Meads and Ashton Gate.

Bristol Sport chairman Martin Griffiths said: “We’ve been working with Bristol City Council and First Bristol to establish a coordinated transport strategy for the ‘new’ Ashton Gate. I am delighted that today we can announce further initiatives in this ongoing process.

“This season we will be able to host up to 27,000 fans on matchdays and want to ensure that their journey to and from the stadium is as easy as it can be.

“We hope supporters will take full advantage of these subsidised services. The routes have been developed to enhance fans travel and also to ease congestion in key parts of the city.”

First Bristol commercial manager Simon Ford added: “We’re delighted to build on the partnership that was established in 2014 with Bristol Rugby to offer fans more choice of travel on matchdays. The three new services include routes from the Portway Park & Ride; Horfield Common and a Temple Meads service to and from the stadium, with a number of stops on the way.

“We hope that supporters will embrace the new routes which should make their matchday travel cheaper, more efficient and more environmentally friendly to the city.”

Councillor Mark Bradshaw, Bristol City cabinet member for transport added: “It is great to see these two companies working together to provide additional benefit for the public. With Ashton Gate expanding as a venue it is essential that fans are given every opportunity to use public transport as a mode of travel.”

Supporters can purchase the Bristol Inner Zone Day Ticket for £4 (adult), (£3 young person / student) and £2 (child). This ticket allows unlimited travel for a day on all First operated services in the Bristol Inner Zone, as well as special Ashton Gate services.

Timetables for Bristol Rugby matchdays at Ashton Gate will be released in due course.
