Ashton Gate to host annual Former Players' reunion at Jersey clash

Bristol Rugby stars of yesteryear will gather at Ashton Gate on Sunday, ahead of the GKIPA Championship clash with Jersey Reds, for the club’s annual Former Players’ lunchtime reunion.

The former players group, which contains eight internationals, nine former captains and ten of the side which won the 1983 John Player Cup, will meet for a carvery lunch ahead of kick-off, before taking their seats for the game.

Bristol face Jersey in round seventeen, looking to extend a season-long unbeaten run and Pat Lam’s men will be backed by over one-hundred former players.

"Gatherings like this are so important,” said club historian, Mark Hoskins. “They give former players from far and wide, representing a range of eras, the opportunity to meet up with old friends.

“We’re delighted to see this longstanding tradition continue and it’s always enjoyable to catch up with old teammates and reminisce about games and experiences.”

Mark Tainton, COO

“In some case they will not have met for a number of years. It is also a great chance to meet and honour some of the great players from the club's past.”

Chief operating officer, Mark Tainton, the club’s all-time leading points scorer, added: “It’s fantastic to see so many former players confirmed to attend the luncheon at Ashton Gate.

“We’re delighted to see this longstanding tradition continue and it’s always enjoyable to catch up with old teammates and reminisce about games and experiences.”
