Ashton Gate welcomes in the new season

Ashton Gate welcomes back first-team action tomorrow as Bristol City host Nottingham Forest in the SkyBet Championship.

It’s just 13 weeks since the 2017-18 season drew to a close and it’s been a busy few months at the stadium.

Since May, Ashton Gate has hosted the following:

  • Celebration of Sport Week where over 3,000 children were able to play on the pitch
  • VegFest, which welcomed over 9,000 people
  • Upfest, Europe’s largest street art festival
  • The World Cup fan village which attracted over 30,000 fans
  • Business Showcase South West, the region’s largest business event with 5,000 companies attending
  • Future Islands concert which packed the Lansdown Stand concourse
  • Gromit Unleashed 2, Rockin’ Robin, has attracted thousands of visitors from as far away as the US, Canada and Hungary as part of the Gromit Unleashed 2 trail
  • More than a dozen major charity events including Heart’s ‘Make Some Noise’ charity game whose 4,500 crowd raised £46,000
  • Almost 600 other event bookings, attended by 26,500 guests
  • New branding for each team on a match-day in the sports bar.

Ashton Gate Stadium Managing Director, Mark Kelly said; “The close-season is a quiet period for many stadiums but Ashton Gate now operates as a year-round venue.

“Alongside running events, the team have also been making numerous improvements around the stadium.

“Supporters may spot some of them like the revamped Family Area, the Wedlock Wall and the Bristol Bears clubhouse; while other changes will be harder to spot. More improvements are on their way in coming months as we look to continuous evolve the stadium.”

Meanwhile fans will also be able to make use of the new rewards system at Ashton Gate, use the recently launched Bristol City app and take advantage of the new AG6 service from north and west Bristol.

Everyone at Ashton Gate is looking forward to welcoming back the fans, players and staff of both clubs for what promises to be an exciting 2018-19 season.
