Attwood calls for fast start at The Rec

Dave Attwood insists a fast start will be key for the Bears when they take on West Country rivals, Bath at The Rec on Saturday (4.30pm KO, live on BT Sport 1 HD).

The league leaders have won four out of the last five derbies, including a league double over Bath during the 2019/20 campaign, but Attwood knows his former club will pose a ‘hugely physical challenge’ this weekend.

“From a motivation point, Bath have everything to throw into game now they are out of Europe,” he said.

“Starting well is really important to maintain momentum. We’re really ruing the points we dropped against Chiefs and desperate to get back on track.

“We’re very wary of their threats and prowess that Bath possess - they’ve had some misfortune this season, but we’re really relishing a hugely physical challenge on Saturday.

“There are some exciting individual match-ups across the field, so it promises to be another great game in this famous rivalry.

“The weather forecast looks wet, so we’re looking forward to testing ourselves in adverse conditions. Bath will be targeting this game, but it’s a good opportunity to continue our run of wins against them, but we know we’ll have to be at our best.”
