Batley to depart at the end of contract

Joe Batley will join Worcester Warriors at the end of his current contract.

The second-row leaves Ashton Gate after twenty competitive outings and three seasons with the club.

During his time at Bristol Bears, Batley also represented Hartpury and Leicester Tigers on loan.

Director of Rugby Pat Lam said: “Joe has been a fantastic team man and he’s made an impression on the coaching staff and his teammates during his time with the Bears.

“He has faced some significant challenges in his personal life and he’s shown great determination and positivity to overcome them, that’s a testament to his character.

Joe has really grown and matured as a player and person over the past three seasons. But it’s important for Joe’s continued growth to get more game time in the Premiership so we wish him the very best at Worcester Warriors.”

An ambassador for Rugby Against Cancer, Batley was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in March 2018 and made a full recovery and return to competitive action.

He added: “Bristol has been a fantastic experience – it’s a great bunch of lads and staff and I’ve really enjoyed my time here.

“I feel as though I have improved as a player in the past three seasons and I’m grateful to my teammates, coaches and fans for the support that they have shown me.

“I’m excited about the opportunity at Worcester and I’m hungry to play regular rugby in the Premiership and to take on the new challenge.”
