Bears Academy intake for 2022/23 season

Nine players have signed professional terms with the Bears Senior Academy ahead of the 2022/23 season, including eight members of the national title winning U18 squad.

Jimmy Halliwell (tighthead prop), Paddy Pearce (second row), Sam Worsley (fly half), Pete Carter (scrum half), Aaron Tull (back row), Ed Harvey (back row), Joe Jenkins (centre) and Sami Hamid (full back/wing) all graduate into the Senior Academy. Another addition is second row Joe Owen, who joins after an impressive campaign for Clifton in National Two.

Find out a bit more about the young guns joining the Bears:

Jimmy Halliwell

Position: Tighthead prop
School: Colston's School

Powerhouse prop Jimmy Halliwell represented England U18 this season and impressed during the Six Nations Festival. Strong at the set-piece and talented in the loose, Halliwell has a strong all-round game.

Paddy Pearce

Position: Second row
School: Colston's School

Athletic second row Paddy Pearce was a key cog in the Bears title-winning campaign and was another to represent England U18 this season. Pearce is physical on both sides of the ball as well as being a talented lineout operator and ball player.

Joe Owen

Position: Second row
Club: Clifton RFC

Joe Owen signed professional terms with the Bears following a standout campaign for Clifton in National Two South. A dynamic ball carrier, Owen is comfortable in both the wide channels and the tight.

Aaron Tull

Position: Back row
School: Clifton College

Aaron Tull was the captain of the Bears U18s as they stormed to a maiden national title this season. A powerful ball carrier and physical defender, Tull demonstrated his leadership qualities throughout the campaign.

Ed Harvey

Position: Back row
School: Colston's School

A dynamic ball carrying number eight, Ed Harvey formed a strong partnership with captain Aaron Tull in the Bears U18 side.

Pete Carter

Position: Scrum half
School: Clifton College

A robust scrum half, Pete Carter impressed throughout the U18s Academy League campaign, teaming up well with Sam Worsley at half back.

Sam Worsley

Position: Fly half
School: Clifton College

England U18 fly half Sam Worsley recovered from injury to lead the Bears U18s to a sensational national title win. A talented number ten with an all-court game, Worsley started three times during the U18 Six Nations Festival.

Joe Jenkins

Position: Centre
School: Monmouth School for Boys

Joe Jenkins missed the entirety of last season through injury, but looks set to return to action this pre-season. The pacey and powerful centre was named in the England U18 training squad this season.

Sami Hamid

Position: Full back
School: Clifton College

Hamid's counter attacking skills came to the fore in the Bears U18 side this season, with his pace and attacking flair catching the eye and fitting nicely into the Bears DNA.
