Bristol Bears Women will continue to wear dark shorts with their home and away kits during the 2022/23 season and beyond, with Bristol City Women also making the switch to red shorts starting with the Women’s Weekend of Sport at Ashton Gate.
Bears have already donned dark shorts for the past two seasons, with City Women and their Super League Academy side making the change ahead of an exciting weekend in BS3.
Wearing white clothing while on a period can be a concern for athletes across all sports, and the decision to make the switch comes with a view to maximising performance by aiding focus and reducing anxiety on matchday.
Bears captain, Amber Reed, said: “We’re going to play our best rugby when we’re in the best mindset and that was the main reason for the change a few seasons ago, but it’s great to see Bristol City Women following suit with red shorts.
Head Coach, Dave Ward, added: “The confidence and comfort of our players is crucial to get the best result when we step out onto the pitch.
“We’re proud to be able to support this change and hopefully we can inspire others to start these conversations and make positive steps in women’s rugby.”
