Bears partner with Pledgeball to reduce impact on the planet

Bristol Bears continue their partnership with Pledgeball this season, an initiative that encourages fans to join together and make sustainable lifestyle pledges in support of their club.

Last season’s semi-final saw Bears fans pledge to save a whopping 194,769kg of carbon emissions a year, saving the same amount of emissions as taking over 40 cars off the road.

The most popular pledges saw fans committing to switching to using reusable water bottles and cups and ensuring that they were recycling properly.

Go here to join your fellow fans and show your planetary support for the Bears and for the chance to win four tickets to our Champions Cup opener against Scarlets at Ashton Gate on December 10th/11th/12th.

Sports fans have a unique power to initiate change:

  • The Bears’ Twitter followers simply switching to using a reusable bottle saves the same amount of emissions as taking over 350 cars off the road
  • Just one Ashton Gate’s worth of fans halving their dairy consumption equates to taking over 2,200 cars off the road

And as the influence of the Bears spreads beyond rugby the impact will grow.

Katie Cross, Founder of Pledgeball said: “The Bears fans wiped all other Pledgeballing teams out of the competition, very quickly pledging to save a greater amount of emissions than any other team for one event (including Bristol City!)

“I’m excited to see what quantity of emissions the Bears fans pledge to save on their second run.

As the season progresses, I expect the Pledgeballing Bears fans’ influence to cause a wave of change. Come on Bears!”
