Bears quartet commit futures to the club

Four Bristol Bears players have committed their futures to the club, we’re delighted to confirm.

Loosehead prop Yann Thomas and lock John Hawkins sign two-year deals, while tighthead prop Max Lahiff and Tiff Eden agree one-year extensions.

Director of Rugby Pat Lam said: “Tiff and John are quality men who have unfortunately had injuries which has hindered their progress. We wanted to give them more time to continue their development. They’re both unbelievable team men who have really added to our environment. We’re looking forward to seeing them flourish with a run of games.

“For us to be the team we are striving to be, significant depth in the front row is crucial. Max and Yann are experienced performers who are well liked and contribute massively on and off the field. They’re quality players and we’re delighted to keep them onboard.”

Yann Thomas

Bristolian loosehead, Yann Thomas joined Bristol Bears ahead of the 2018/19 Gallagher Premiership campaign.

The 29-year-old former Gloucester player has made 21 league appearances for the club in that time, scoring one try.

Max Lahiff

Experienced tighthead, Max Lahiff joined Bristol Bears on an initial short-term deal at the beginning of the 2019/20 season.

The 30-year-old former Bath prop, who spent five seasons at The Rec, has made nine appearances for the Bears.

Tiff Eden

Fly half Tiff Eden, who can also operate at centre, joined the club from GKIPA Championship side, Nottingham in the summer of 2018.

Eden kicked 19 points in a 44-27 victory over London Irish in the Premiership Cup in October, in a flawless display from the tee. He has made two appearances for the club during the 2019/20 campaign, as well as spending time on loan at GKIPA Championship side, Hartpury.

The 25-year-old is one of the appointed community leaders within the squad and is responsible for organising charity events and community appearances.

John Hawkins

Academy graduate, John Hawkins has signed a two-year extension to his senior contract, the club is delighted to announce.

The 23-year-old second row, who can also operate in the back row, made his Premiership debut for the club in 2018 and has made seven competitive appearances so far during the 2019/20 campaign.

Hawkins joined the Bristol Bears Academy in 2015 and has risen through the ranks, signing his first senior contract in February 2019.
