Bears Wheelchair Rugby team star in Poole tournament

The Bristol Bears Wheelchair Rugby (BBWR) Club recently travelled to Bournemouth to participate in in an invitational three-team friendly tournament.

As part of their ongoing team development, a group of players from the Community Foundation’s community-access session made the trip to Poole to take-on teams from Bournemouth Lions and Endeavour (Help For Heroes).

Playing each team twice across the day, the Bears adults beat Endeavour at the first time of asking before losing the return fixture by a single point, with the team going on to be voted ‘team of the tournament’ due to the spirit in which they competed.

“What a great event it was, and to be able to see the progress we have made as a team since our last visit to Poole 12 months ago was great,” said BBWR Club Chairman Steve Slade.

“Great group, great competition, great camaraderie – what more can you ask for?”

Well beaten in their two fixtures against Bournemouth, the Bears players can view this as their marker for development, with the Lions playing in the national GBWR Wheelchair Rugby 5s Premiership.
