Bristol Bears Women will become the first women’s club side to have names on the back of their playing shirts during the 2022/23 Allianz Premier 15s and Allianz Cup campaigns.
In a move that further aligns the women’s and men’s teams at Bristol Bears, Dave Ward’s starting XV will showcase this for the first time at the league season opener against Wasps at Ashton Gate on Saturday (November 19th), as part of the Women’s Weekend of Sport.
Head Coach, Dave Ward, said: “It’s huge and I’m incredibly proud that we’re the first club to do it for a full season. The vision within the club is that we want to inspire the community through rugby success and part of that success is the alignment with the men’s team.
“We want to show these incredible women, not only as rugby players but as the characters and athletes that they are. We want young girls to have the same dream and we’ve put that into action.
“We want to build those role models and for the likes of Simi (Pam), Phoebe (Murray), Amber (Reed) and the other players involved this weekend, having their names on the backs of their shirts is a huge recognition for their hard work and it also helps to make those girls the inspiration for the next generation. That’s something we’re absolutely committed to at Bears.”
