Beer Bonanza At Ashton Gate

There will be a festive beer bonanza at Ashton Gate on Boxing Day and New Year's Day for fans of Bristol City and Bristol Rugby.

Butcombe Brewery will be bringing in a small but carefully-chosen selection of some of the best beers and ales in the UK to the Dolman Exhibition Hall.

There will be a range of seasonal and special beers, from local favourites to the likes of Fuller’s of London and Oakham of Peterborough, plus the winner and runner-up from this year’s Great British Beer Festival – Timothy Taylor’s Boltmaker and Oakham Citra respectively.

The beers will be available from a specialist bar set up in the Dolman Exhibition Hall for Bristol City's sold out Boxing Day clash with Yeovil Town and Bristol Rugby's New Year's Day game with Plymouth.

Here are some of the ales set to whet the appetite over the festive period…

BUTCOMBE GOLD, 4.4%

A refreshing golden bitter brimming with character. Made with 100% Maris Otter malt, and brewed using a single variety hop…English Fuggles. A malty fresh vitality gives way to a full bittersweet finish…pure Gold! GBBF (Great British Beer Festival) FINALIST THIS AUGUST

RARE BREED, 3.8%

A distinctive, refreshing and clean-tasting pale ale brewed in conjunction with the Cotswold farmer and TV presenter Adam Henson. Finest West Country ingredients - Maris Otter malting barley from Adam’s farm, aromatic Herefordshire hops and Mendip spring water, combined with a sprinkling of the delicious, fruity Cascade hop.

BRUNEL ATLANTIC IPA, 4.1%

A 4.1% IPA that maintains the classic bitterness and robustness of IPAs but with the addition of beautifully fruity American hops and all at an ABV that can be enjoyed all night. Impressively strong and full-flavoured for its ABV, this is a piece of classic and bold Butcombe engineering!

TIMMY TAYLOR’S, BOLTMAKER, 4.0%

A well-balanced, genuine Yorkshire Bitter, with a full measure of maltiness and hoppy aroma. Beautiful GOLDEN beer. CHAMPION BEER OF BRITAIN 2014 at the GBBF.

FULLER’S, JACK FROST, 4.5%

‘A warming winter ale, brewed with blackberries’ – this is a great Christmas beer. Full-flavoured without being too strong; nice maltiness, a touch of festive fruit from the blackberries. DEEP RED in colour with a bittersweet finish.

CITRA, 4.2%

A LIGHT refreshing beer with pungent grapefruit, lychee and gooseberry aromas leading to a dry, bitter finish. A heavyweight of its category. GBBF SILVER CHAMPION (AKA Runner-up!) 2014.
