Bristol Bears Academy confirm 2018/19 squads

Bristol Bears Academy has confirmed its senior and junior squads ahead of the 2018/19 Gallagher Premiership campaign.

The senior Academy includes players who are integrated with the first team on a full-time basis, while the junior Academy includes players who are combining study or apprenticeships and rugby.

Bristol Grammar School and England U18s duo Charlie Powell and Will Capon link up with the senior Academy squad, signing their first professional contracts. Read more about the pair by clicking here.

Nathan Chamberlain (Scotland U18s and SGS College) joins the junior Academy, while Charlie Brabham (Wales U18s and SGS College) and Sam Cappaert – a utility back from Northampton Saints Academy – agree apprenticeships.

Academy manager Mike Hall said: “There’s a huge amount of talent in our Academy programme ahead of the new season. For the senior group, their initial playing opportunities are likely to come from the A-League and Premiership Cup and we will be challenging them to compete for spots in the league and Europe.

“We’re excited to welcome three additions to our junior Academy squad. Nathan [Chamberlain] and Charlie [Brabham] have come through the age-groups with the club, while Sam Cappaert represented Bristol United last season and is a versatile fly half.

“We’d like to thank Nick Freeman, Tom Hargan and Iwan Hughes who all depart the junior Academy. The club wishes them all well on the next chapter of their careers."
