Bristol Bears Women announce Sister Club Programme

Bristol Bears Women is delighted to announce the 2018/19 Sister Club programme with the aim to grow, excite and inspire women’s rugby in the South West.

The initiative has the aim of helping clubs local to the South West through coaching advice, developing the internal infrastructure of the club and helping those clubs to create a sustainable platform for women and girls from the local area to play rugby for the foreseeable future.

As well as the Bristol Bears Women players and coaches visiting the clubs involved, throughout the season the Sister Clubs will be invited to attend training sessions and games to gain an insight into the elite level of the women’s game in England and pick up practices that can transferred back to their own clubs.

The five clubs involved in the Sister Club programme are; Clevedon Ladies RFC, Chipping Sodbury Ladies RFC, Hornettes Ladies RFC, Winscombe Ladies RFC and St Mary’s Ladies RFC.

Bristol Bears Women CEO, Heidi Chapman-Mercer said:

“The programme is designed to work with clubs in the local area to help them develop and improve as a club on the whole.

“Clubs will be invited to come to our sessions and do some coach shadowing, which allow the clubs to come in and see how coaching at the elite level can be transferred to the training pitch at their club. Coaches and senior players will also be visiting all of the clubs throughout the season to help deliver sessions.

“We’re in a very fortunate position to have a high calibre player base as well as fantastic coaching staff and volunteers that help run the club, who can all help and assist clubs in the local area to really develop themselves through various means.

“As a club we want to give the knowledge and skills we have back into the community because it can help to grow, excite and inspire women’s and girls’ rugby in the local area.”
