Two lucky members of the Community Foundation’s Disability Journalism Programme were granted behind-the-scenes access at Bristol Rugby’s GKIPA Championship clash with Rotherham Titans at Ashton Gate on Saturday.
Megan and Dana, from New Fosseway School, went pitch side prior to kick off to interview head coach, Pat Lam and assistant coach, Conor McPhillips, ahead of Bristol Rugby’s 55-10 victory over the Titans, before attending a press conference with first team players, Nick Haining and Joe Latta.
“This was a fantastic opportunity for Megan for Dana to meet the Bristol Rugby coaches and players, as well to apply some of the skills we have been working on during the programme,” said Kris Tavender, programme manager.
“We’re delighted to work so closely with Pat Lam and his team to enhance the experience for our pupils and Saturday was another fine example of this.”

The Disability Journalism Programme (DJP) is a five-week programme based at Ashton Gate Stadium and run in partnership with Bristol Rugby, for secondary students from special schools and specialist education providers.
The DJP provides students with the opportunity to develop game analysis and report writing skills, before participating in an access-all-areas Bristol Rugby match day experience - observing pre-match build-up, interviewing players and posting match updates online through official social-media channels.
Sessions are prepared and delivered by experienced and qualified specialist teachers, providing appropriate differentiation and support at an individual level.
