Butchers and Powell bound for Moscow 7s

Alisha Butchers and Kayleigh Powell have been named in Warren Abraham’s 12-player Wales 7s squad that will travel to Moscow this weekend.

Wales Women 7s are aiming for continuous improvement in Russia this weekend and are boosted by the return of Hannah Jones, who was previously on camp with GB Sevens.

Nine of Abraham’s travelling group previously represented Wales at Lisbon earlier this month as the Rugby Europe 7s Championships got underway.

Wales take on Spain and Scotland in the first stage of the competition this weekend.

Head Coach Warren Abrahams said: “We have progressed nicely following the Lisbon 7s. We have had some challenges, some injuries and unavailability for this weekend. However, we are pleased with the level of consistency in selection as we look to build consistency and improvement in our performances.

Abraham also commented on how proud the squad is of Jasmine Joyce and her recent selection to represent GB Rugby Sevens at the upcoming Olympic Games.

“We are all so pleased for Jaz, she is going to show the world what she is capable of and we are all right behind her, we’ll be watching the Olympic rugby sevens competition very closely from home.”

Wales Women 7s squad in full that will travel to Moscow:

Alisha Butchers, Alex Callender, Gwen Crabb, Beth Dainton, Angharad De Smet, Georgia Evans, Katherine Evans, Hannah Jones, Bethan Lewis, Jade Mullen, Kayleigh Powell, Shona Powell-Hughes
