Changes to matchday bus services

Bears has announced important changes to the timetables, ticketing and pricing of matchday bus services for 2022/23 – including free parking and club subsidised travel for just £1 return.

In response to the widely publicised pressure on public transport nationally, the club has worked hard with First Bus over the summer with the aim of providing a reliable and competitively priced service for the upcoming season.

First Bus will continue to operate the AG1, AG2 and AG3 to Ashton Gate for men’s first team home league matches. Services and timetables may vary for Cup games.

Full details including route maps, stops, prices and ticketing can be seen by clicking  Travel>Ashton Gate.

Ashton Gate Chairman Martin Griffiths said: “Well-publicised driver shortages, wage increases and fuel costs have been impacting transport locally and nationally. At the same time we are also acutely aware of the cost-of-living crisis affecting many of our fans. We have worked throughout the summer with First Bus to find solutions to these challenges in a way that protects the quality and reliability of the services – which is critical to fans on match day.

“The club has agreed to significantly increase the level of subsidy on these services in order to help protect free travel for Concessionary Bus Pass holders and Under-5s. The off-peak ticket offers free parking and travel from just 50p per journey – making use of the bus far more cost-effective than car use. We also hope this will encourage fans to make more use of buses at quieter times and we will monitor demand closely, increasing provision as needed.”

TICKETS & PRICING

  • A new off-peak fare will offer return travel for just £1 on the first pre-match departure on any route and the second wave of post-match departures
  • All tickets are now issued as return only. Single tickets are no longer available
  • Free travel will continue to be offered for English Concessionary Travel Scheme card holders
  • Free travel will also continue for children under 5 years
  • Group tickets will offer return travel for up to five people travelling together from £2.90 per person on the AG1 and AG2 or £1.70 per person on the AG3
  • As this is a dedicated stadium-related service, tickets will no longer link with the First Bus Bristol Zone public bus network and will operate outside that service. Tickets purchased on AG1, AG2, AG3 will not be valid for travel on the public bus network and vice-versa
  • Concessionary travel has been simplified with Children aged 5-15 and Student/Young Person (16-21) now paying the same price
  • The effect of the above changes means a standard return ticket on the AG1 and AG2 has increased by 60p for adults, decreased by 10p for students/young person and increased by 80p for children aged 5-15
  • A standard return ticket on the AG3 Temple Meads and City Centre route has dropped by £1.40 per adult, £1.10 per student/young person and 20p for children 5-15
  • mTickets are available via the First Bus app under the Bristol area and Bristol Sport section
  • All services are cashless. Full fare paying single adults can simply tap on and tap off with their debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay

TIMETABLES

  • AG services will now depart pre-match from 2 hours 30 minutes before kick-off to 30 minutes before kick-off. Post-match services will operate until 3 hours 30 minutes after kick-off. For example, for a 3pm kick-off services will depart to Ashton Gate between 12:30 and 14:30 and post-match they will operate until 18:30
  • HPC1 services will depart from the Haymarket 1hr 10mins and 30 minutes before kick-off and depart post-match, approximately 2hr 10 mins after kick-off and 2hr 40 mins after kick-off

ROUTES

  • The AG1 Portway Park and Ride service includes free parking and stops along the Portway to Ashton Gate. Post-match departures are from Winterstoke Road, outside The Robins pub
  • The AG2 Brislington Park and Ride service includes free parking and is direct to Ashton Gate. Post-match departures are from Winterstoke Road, outside South Bristol Retail Park
