Charles Piutau opens new pitches at QEH Sports Ground

QEH welcomed Charles Piutau to officially open the school’s new state of the art facilities at the school’s sports ground at Failand.

The development sees the delivery of a 3G artificial surface for rugby and football, sand dressed artificial surface for hockey and tennis as well as tarmac surfaces for netball and tennis.

Work began in early 2019 and was completed this summer, ready for the start of the 2019/20 academic year, and has been well received by students, staff and visiting teams.

Piutau said: “This is a fantastic new facility for students at QEH. It is great to hear that there is such a high level of participation in sport at the school and I am sure these new pitches will continue to inspire students for many years to come."

Among those attending the opening were the school sports scholars, former students of the school, members of the governing body and Headmaster of QEH, Mr Stephen Holliday.

Representatives from Mitchell Eley Gould Architects and Agility Sports Facility Development, and the school’s bursary including Mr Mark Suddaby, Bursar, and Mrs Sarah Bryant, Estates Bursar, were also present.

“I am delighted to be able to celebrate the opening of the new pitches, and to see QEH victorious in the rugby matches that followed.  These new facilities have enhanced our sport provision and will enable us to offer a wider breadth of sport at all levels, including for our Sixth Form girls.”
