Community case study: Aspire elevating Foundation programmes

The Aspire Partnership LLP, a chartered financial planning firm has been supporting Bristol Bears Community Foundation since 2017.

The Bristol-based firm initially pledged to support the award-winning Bright Sparks education programme but has contributed so much more across other programmes and fundraising events to date.

The Bright Sparks programme is delivered across one whole academic year and aims to best equip identified young people with the skills needed to succeed in school and in wider life. In addition to the much-needed financial support allowing the cost of the programme to be reduced for our partner schools, the fantastic colleagues from Aspire have contributed their time in supporting young people on the programme, and even delivered valuable and purposeful lessons for Bright Sparks students.

Aspire Bright Sparks lessons allow students to gain a better understanding of the importance of planning for the future, the value of committing to new opportunities, as well as tips for job applications and interviews.

The Aspire team have also engaged in numerous education days for our students that have included workshops from local partners including StreetDoctors, the fire & rescue service, and Army.

Ian Larthe de Langladure, Partner at Aspire, said: "This is an excellent programme which will have a positive effect on young people.

This involvement has given us an insight into the work of the Foundation and has led us to focus the support that we can offer via the Community Foundation into the Bright Sparks programme.

“The young people that the Bright Sparks programme is looking to engage with are in the formative years of their school career and already on the cusp of making poor choices and suffering the consequences of these decisions. Intervening at this point to help them gain confidence and achieve a qualification could be the making of them.

“The values of the programme – teamwork, communication, perseverance – sit well with our values. In years to come, they could be successful in business and that’s exciting. That’s why Aspire supports the Bright Sparks programme.”

Since 2017, 501 students across Greater Bristol and Somerset regions have completed the programme in the time Aspire has supported the work of Bristol Bears Community Foundation. The success of the programme is staggering with most students completing an accredited award by the end of year 9, demonstrating better life choices, and progressing onto further education, employment or training beyond their school years.

Now in 2022 the Aspire team continue to contribute significantly to the Bright Sparks education programme but also regularly engages with the Foundation’s ‘Bear in Mind’ programme in addition to supporting numerous fundraising activities and helping to share the value of the Foundation's work. ‘Bear in Mind’ is a health and wellbeing programme aimed at equipping girls in secondary education with the tools to build self-confidence and to cope with the wider issues faced by young women across modern society today.
