Community Foundation's charity challenges raise £5k

Staff from volunteers from Bristol Bears Community Foundation have raised more than £5,000, to be shared between their own work and that of St Peter's Hospice, after a two-week fundraising bonanza.

Ten members of staff kicked it all off with the Kilimanjaro Stairs Challenge - climbing the equivalent of Africa's highest mountain using their stairs at home. In total, each member of staff completed 520 flights of stairs each, and the challenge was also supported by St Mary's Old Boys Ladies RFC.

Following that mammoth task, Community Development Manager, Craig Capel took centre stage with his indoor rowing challenge, rowing 26km per day for six days - or so he had planned. A change of heart on the final day saw Capel complete a full marathon (42km), to take the Foundation's overall fundraising past the £5,000 mark.

Capel said: "We are so grateful to everyone for their wonderful support throughout the last fortnight. The money raised will go towards the continuation and support of the Foundation's award-winning work in the community, as well as to our friends at St Peter's Hospice - another incredible charity."
