'Confidence is high ahead of Wasps clash' - O'Conor

Piers O’Conor says Bristol Bears’ Premiership Cup victory over Wasps little over a fortnight ago will count for very little when the two sides meet again in the Gallagher Premiership on Saturday.

The centre, who was named man of the match at the Ricoh Arena during a 30-19 victory earlier this month, has warned Bristol to be wary of a wounded Wasps side this weekend.

“Wasps will have a lot to prove having gone seven defeats on the bounce,” he said.

“They will want to kick-start their season and they will definitely be gunning for us. We can’t wait around and take that last result for granted, we’ve got to focus on getting our game right.

“Of course, it (winning at the Ricoh) gives us confidence, but we can’t rely on that. We’ve got to go through and do what we do.

“We know that Wasps will be out to end their run, and we’ve got to be prepared for another huge test on Saturday.”

“They (Wasps) will want to kick-start their season and they will definitely be gunning for us. We can’t wait around and take that last result for granted, we’ve got to focus on getting our game right."

Following the last-gasp disappointment of Sunday’s defeat to Exeter Chiefs at Ashton Gate, O’Conor insists Bristol have moved on from the result and are fully-focused on their next test.

“It was obviously gutting to lose in the final minute, but the game is done now, we’ve got to move on and focus on this week. That’s our next priority,” he said.

“Yes, we played well, but we’ve got to finish games off and this week it’s massively important to back up that performance and go and beat a side like Wasps.

“The score is the score, we can’t change that now, so we’ve purely got to focus on the next week and go from there.

“We’re taking the positives from the Exeter game and we take massive pride in working as a team.

“If everyone gets their roles right and works together, we’re confident we can beat anyone.”
