Crompton and Joyce selected to represent GB Sevens

Grace Crompton and Jasmine Joyce have been named in the GB Rugby Sevens squad for the upcoming HSBC Canada Sevens in Vancouver and Edmonton.

Women's head coach Scott Forrest has named his 13-player squad for the forthcoming 2021 HSBC Canada Sevens in Vancouver (18-19 September) and Edmonton (25-26 September).

GB take on hosts Canada, USA and Mexico in both cities. Mexico men’s and women’s teams were added to the event following the late withdrawal of France’s teams due to Covid-19 related international travel logistics issues.

The women’s fast four competition format, which was previously employed at the men’s Series event in Hamilton in 2019, will see all teams play each other before the top two play for gold and the other two teams compete for third place. The group have been training at Loughborough University and travel today.

Six members of the squad represented Team GB at this summer’s Olympic Games as Abbie Brown and Megan Jones once again co-captain the group.

Bristol Bears’ Grace Crompton, Harlequins’ Heather Cowell, Gloucester-Hartpury’s Alicia Maude and Scotland’s Shona Campbell are set for their GB Sevens debuts while the experienced Amy Wilson Hardy returns.

Sale Sharks’ Jodie Ounsley and Saracens’ Chantelle Miell return to the format after representing England Sevens in recent years.

GB Sevens squad in full: Abbie Brown (co-captain, Loughborough Lightning), Abi Burton (Wasps Women), Shona Campbell (Scotland 7s), Grace Crompton (Bristol Bears Women)Heather Cowell (Harlequins Women), Megan Jones (co-captain, Wasps Women), Jasmine Joyce (Bristol Bears Women)Alicia Maude (Gloucester-Hartpury Women), Chantelle Miell (Saracens Women), Jodie Ounsley (Sale Sharks Women), Celia Quansah (Wasps Women), Emma Uren (Saracens Women), Amy Wilson Hardy (Wasps Women)
