Daring Bristol Foursome To Take On Atlantic Row

A daring foursome from Bristol has set out to raise more than £100,000 for the Movember Foundation by rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean in December 2017.

Mark Gibson, Daniel Baker, Steve Baker and Jon Lakin will take on the audacious ‘Nuts Over The Atlantic’ challenge completely unaided - rowing for 24 hours, seven days a week, in a two hours on/off shift pattern for six weeks.

In October, Mark took part in a small question and answer session during the half-time interval of Bristol’s Aviva Premiership match against Sale Sharks at Ashton Gate, outlining the challenge and raising awareness for their cause.

The group has already taken on a number of gruelling tasks in the past - and Mark says the team hopes to inspire others to challenge themselves.

He said: "Nuts Over The Atlantic is a team of four friends from the South West that have witnessed first hand how western society is impacting men’s health. Since leaving University we found ourselves unconsciously slipping into a lifestyle that is so dangerous to many unsuspecting men the world over.

“In January 2016 we decided we needed to make a change to our lifestyle and simultaneously wanted to take part in something that inspired others to go out and challenge themselves.

“Individually we have climbed Kilimanjaro, cycled to Paris, competed in an Iron Man event and driven a Mototaxi across Peru.

“As we'd never rowed before we set ourselves the challenge of competing in one of the toughest races on Earth; a 3000 mile row across the Atlantic - The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.

“We want to show people that with dedication any challenge is possible. We want to encourage people to aim big.”
