Dave Ward signs three-year extension

Head Coach Dave Ward has signed a three-year contract extension with the Bears following an impressive debut campaign at the club.

The 37-year-old led the Bears to a third-place finish and a maiden Allianz Premier 15s play-off semi-final in 2021/22, with an exciting and attacking brand of rugby attracting record crowds in Bear Country. Ward’s three-year extension will keep him at the Bears until at least 2025.

Ward said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have extended my stay with the Bears. To have come from eighth position in 2020/21, to third this season is a huge credit to everyone involved and I’m hugely excited about the levels this squad can reach moving forward.

“Everything at the High Performance Centre is set up for us to achieve our vision of Inspiring Our Community Through Rugby Success and that’s not just winning on the field, that’s about growing the women’s game and developing pathways to encourage girls and young women to play and enjoy rugby.

“I have loved working with such an ambitious group, and I am delighted to be able to continue this journey with the Bears.”

Director of Rugby, Pat Lam, said: “Dave is a talented young coach who has driven professional standards and excellent accountability last season, ensuring progress for the Women’s programme.

“Alignment of our men and women programmes at the Bears High Performance Centre is a key part of our vision and the connections that have been made and the culture that has been created are paying dividends in results and performances.”
