Kim Oliver believes the Bears defensive work rate will be vital as they prepare to welcome Saracens Women to Shaftesbury Park on Saturday afternoon (2pm).
“We need to make sure that we’re putting pressure on Saracens defensively. We need to get off the line, make some dominant hits in and get them on the floor early then that should kill their offload game.
“They’re a big team with some big ball carriers, but our front up defence has been good and I think big ball carriers are great, but they go down hard so the quicker we can get off the line and put a good chop in, the better.
“All it takes is for one dominant hit, one dominant carry that gives people confidence. I think the more we can do that from the start and not rely on other people to do it then we will get the good start we are after.
“The girls are getting better; we have had a tough couple of weeks but if we look inside ourselves then we will see that we are a competitive team that are inches away from being as good as we can be.
“We need to fix those tiny errors and make sure our standards are high and we get our fundamentals right on gameday.
“We upped the intensity in training last week to get us ready for the challenge ahead. You can talk about working hard, working fast but what do those actually mean.
“We have pushed the girls over the last week so they’re working hard to avoid chaos and we believe that will help put us in a good position ahead of the weekend.”
