'Defensive pressure was key to victory' - Oliver

Bristol Ladies head coach, Kim Oliver hailed her side's defensive display after they battled to a narrow 13-12 victory over Harlequins Ladies at Cleve RFC on Saturday.

Tries from Daisie Mayes, Clara Nielson and a Lucy Attwood penalty fired Bristol to an impressive win in tough conditions, keeping alive their hopes of a top four finish in Tyrrells Premier 15s - and Oliver believes the result will be a huge confidence boost for the squad.

“It was a really impressive game from everyone involved and this win should give the girls plenty of confidence going in to the next game against Wasps," she said.

Kim Oliver embraces captain, Amelia Buckland Hurry after Saturday's victory (JMP UK).

“It was a really physical game out there for our girls and our defence is something that we’ve worked hard on recently. We put them under huge amounts of pressure, especially in the backs and this put their skills to the test and led to mistakes.

“The girls did a fantastic job and should get a lot of credit for this victory. I’m really proud of them, especially the two 17-year-olds we had out on the wings, they did really well and should be very proud of themselves.”
