A new era

A packed house, a dramatic win and the beginning of a new era at Ashton Gate, as the newly-rebranded Bristol Bears stormed to an opening day victory over Bath.

Alapati Leiua's late try, collecting Luke Morahan's deft offload to dive over, took the roof off in BS3 and fired the hosts to a memorable victory under the Friday Night Lights.

A star is born

As he stood pitchside waiting to enter the fray, Ioan Lloyd found himself shoulder to shoulder with one of his rugby heroes, Bath's Welsh international centre, Jamie Roberts.

The powerhouse midfielder was the first to congratulate Lloyd on his imminent professional debut as they stood on the halfway line - and the 18-year-old back capped a remarkable rise to stardom late in proceedings, racing on to Morahan's pass to slide in, as the Bears ran riot in a 43-16 win at a sold out Ashton Gate.

Uren's starring role

Off the back of successive sold out fixtures against Bath at Ashton Gate, the behind-closed-doors clash in January 2021 had potential to be something of a damp squib. Fear not.

The Bears dominated from the very first whistle, with homegrown scrum-half, Andy Uren leading the charge with a man of the match performance.

Uren cruised over for one of seven tries in a 48-3 rout of their West Country rivals - and how fitting for one of our own to orchestrate another memorable derby triumph.
