Eagle Project Ambassadors lend helping hand at Corporate Tag tournament

Young Ambassadors from the Community Foundation's award-winning Eagle Project utilised some of the skills acquired from the programme during last week's Corporate Tag Rugby tournament at Ashton Gate.

The tournament, which saw 15 business from across the region go head-to-head, with KPMG emerging as the eventual winners, was the final act of Celebration of Sport Week 2018.

Current and former pupils from the Eagle Project were assigned to each of the teams, aiding them with anything from tactics to logistics, while enabling the girls to improve their leadership and organisational skills. 

"The project is all about trying to look at leadership and taking on new challenges, so we felt it would be a good opportunity to get the girls along to the stadium so they could support each of the businesses involved," said programme manager, Craig Capel.

"The reason they've been nominated by the programme or their teachers is because they've been on a bit of a journey. Some of them are quite shy, some had quite low self-esteem or low confidence and actually, the programme got them involved in something quite different. 

"Some of them were a bit reluctant to take part in the traditional 'girls' sports - hockey, netball - but rugby gave them a bit of a boost. Following the Project, they've gone on to join local rugby clubs, so they've really taken themselves out of their comfort zone. 

"We thought this is another step for them on their journey of bettering themselves."
