‘Early errors costly’ - Lam

Pat Lam admitted early mistakes had proved costly for his side at Twickenham, after they slipped to a 26-19 derby defeat at the hands of Bath on Saturday.

Three tries in the opening 20 minutes from Todd Blackadder’s side left Bristol with a mountain to climb at HQ, but the head coach also praised the character of his players to battle back for a losing bonus-point.

“We did well to come back and showed a lot of character,” said Lam. “We were down 19-3 from our own mistakes.

“We had a lot of possession and we played in the right places as well in terms of territory but some of the execution, some of the balls out the back if they had a look it was on."

Pat Lam, head coach

“We had a lot of possession and we played in the right places as well in terms of territory but some of the execution, some of the balls out the back if they had a look it was on.

“But I’m proud of the guys to hold on. The boys kept trying to get points and we got one in the end.

“We know it can work if we keep working, we’ve got to keep building to make sure we grow as a group.”
