Tonight’s West Country derby will also see the first meeting of mixed-ability rugby players from both Bristol Bears and Bath Rugby’s community programmes.
A dozen young adults will take to the Ashton Gate pitch at half-time to showcase the inclusive rugby fun they have been having as part of the national programme, Project Rugby.
With three key focus areas, Project Rugby has been instrumental in affording new and exciting opportunities to disabled and disadvantaged players to play rugby in a safe and accessible way, with over 250 people in the Bristol area having already been directly impacted.
“It’s exciting to welcome adults and young people from the Bath Foundation to join players from our own Bristol Bears Community Foundation for the first Mixed Ability Rugby demonstration here at an Ashton Gate match day,” said community development manage, Craig Capel.
“A core part of Project Rugby, mixed-ability rugby brings disabled and non-disabled players together in one inclusive moment of rugby fun.”
