Friday was a fantastic celebration of rugby - Tainton

Friday night was a fantastic celebration of rugby and community engagement in our city.

To achieve a club record crowd of over 26,000 supporters – a Premiership record for Friday night rugby – was magnificent and the game lived up to the occasion.

Congratulations to Pat Lam and his team for starting the campaign with a memorable victory over our local rivals. As Pat said in his post-match press conference, this is a long season and there will be plenty of challenges along the way, but if the guys continue to play with such togetherness and commitment, we will be a difficult opposition for any team in this division.

I’d like to pay tribute to our tremendous staff at Ashton Gate who helped make Friday night possible. From the hospitality team, who catered to over 1,000 hospitality clients, to the groundstaff who worked tirelessly to ensure the playing surface was immaculate.

Over 26,000 supporters filled Ashton Gate on Friday (JMPUK).

From the ticketing team who helped us reach that remarkable attendance figure, to the marketing and events teams who ensured that Ashton Gate delivered a real rugby atmosphere with the new branded sports bar, expanded fan village and the launch of the memorabilia wall.

The Bears have arrived in style and now it’s vital for us to capitalise on the feel good factor around the club and carry that momentum into the rest of the Gallagher Premiership season. We want Ashton Gate to be a fortress and we’ll be working tirelessly to create that same noise and buzz around every matchday.

Mark Tainton, COO

Finally, to our valued supporters, thank you for embracing the Bristol Bears and showing such vociferous support to the team. The past six months have seen a significant amount of change around the club – on and off the field – and it means so much that our loyal backing remains as passionate and proud as ever.

We host Harlequins and Northampton in back to back Saturdays on 22nd and 29th of September (both 3pm KOs), so please bring your friends and family to Ashton Gate and enjoy what promises to be some fantastic rugby entertainment.

Tickets for Harlequins and Northampton Saints are on sale online by clicking here or via supporter services on 0117 963 0600.
