‘Great challenge to start the season’ - Oliver

Bristol Bears Women Head Coach, Kim Oliver has said her squad will relish the challenge of facing Saracens on the opening weekend of the 2019/20 Tyrrell’s Premier 15s season.

Bears Women will welcome Saracens, Loughborough and Wasps to Shaftesbury Park in the opening four weeks of the season and Oliver believes if her side are to hit their goal of the top four, then they must target the games against the teams in the hunt for the play-offs.

“I don’t think we could have asked for a better challenge to start our season than Saracens at home on the opening weekend. They’re back-to-back champions, but it’s a great test for us to kickstart the new season, said Oliver.

“We have a target to win all our home games and we’ve got Saracens, Loughborough and Wasps all visiting Shaftesbury Park in the opening four weeks of the season which will be tough but we’re really excited about it.

“We want to be in the top four this year and if we’re going to break in to that group then these are the games that we have to be confident about.”

“It’s feels like its been a long pre-season already and we’ve still got seven weeks to go. We’ve got a lot of the nitty gritty stuff out the way and now it’s time to ramp it up and really build towards the opening weekend of the new season."

Oliver believes the additions of Jordan Crane as forwards coach and Matt Belbin as attack coach will help push the club forward in what will be an ‘exciting season’ for Bristol Bears Women.

“It’s feels like its been a long pre-season already and we’ve still got seven weeks to go. We’ve got a lot of the nitty gritty stuff out the way and now it’s time to ramp it up and really build towards the opening weekend of the new season."

“Jordan’s attention to detail is second to none and the experience he brings having played at the top flight for so long is invaluable as we try to push on as a club.

“It’s also great to have Matt onboard as attack coach, he’s previously worked at Bristol and we know him well from our close work with SGS College, so it’s fantastic to have them both on board as we head into a very exciting season for the club.”
