Academy manager, Mike Hall has backed U18 duo, Will Capon and Blake Boyland to thrive on the international stage, after the pair were named in John Fletcher’s England U18 squad for the 2018 campaign.
Capon represented England at U18 level last season, while Boyland, an U17, has been called up for the first time – and Hall says both selections are fully deserved.
“We are delighted to see Will and Blake recognised in this way by the national U18 coaches,” he said.
“Will has obviously been involved in the set-up for the past couple of seasons, so it will be great to see him continue to develop at age-grade international level and how he uses his experience in a leadership role within the squad.
“Blake has done exceptionally well to be recognised as an U17 in the squad. He has put in some good performances in the Academy U18’s League, scoring some great tries and assisting in several too.
“Stepping up to international level is a challenge I’m sure Blake will relish over the next couple of months.”
England U18s will open their season against France at Stade Jean Rolland, in Digne-les-Bains on 3 March (KO 3pm local time, 2pm GMT).
Fixtures against Scotland on 18 March at Stirling County RFC (KO 12pm) and Wales on 25 March at Sardis Road, Pontypridd (KO 4.15pm) then follow before the ‘Six Nations Festival’.
Based in Wales, England U18s will play Scotland at Ystrad Mynach (31 March), Italy at Cardiff Arms Park (4 April) and France at the same venue on 8 April. Kick off times are to be confirmed.
