Hawkins returns to Sumner on two-month placement

Academy lock John Hawkins has re-joined New Zealand club side Sumner RFC on a two-month loan as part of his rehabilitation from last season’s long-term injury.

Hawkins, who played at the Christchurch-based club during the summer of 2016, will return to Bristol in time for the second half of the pre-season campaign.

“John had a fantastic time at Sumner RFC last time he was there, so he jumped at the opportunity to return,” said Academy manager, Mike Hall.

“Last season was massively frustrating for John, not having played a game, so for him to go to New Zealand and make an early start to the new season is very much welcomed.”
