In memory of Luke Wheaton

Bristol Bears express our sincere condolences at the tragic loss of Luke Wheaton, a member of the Junior Academy from U14 to U16.

Luke sadly lost his life, alongside three others, Michael James, 64, Brian Vickery, 63, Raymond White, 57, after an accident at a water treatment works in Avonmouth last week.

Bristol Bears will hold a minutes silence on Saturday ahead of the Heineken Champions Cup clash versus ASM Clermont Auvergne, while the team captain will lay a North Bristol RFC jersey, Luke’s Combination club, on the pitch at Ashton Gate.

Bristol Bears Women will also hold a minute's silence on Saturday ahead of their Allianz Premier 15s fixture against Worcester Warriors Women at Shaftesbury Park.

Luke was a hardworking and committed young player who clearly showed ability and a passion for the game. We are extremely saddened at the terrible news and the loss of this popular and likeable young man. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones. We send our condolences to Luke’s family and friends, to North Bristol RFC, and to all those families affected by the tragic events at Avonmouth.
