Ioan Lloyd up for Land Rover Discovery of the Season

Ioan Lloyd has been shortlisted for the Land Rover Discovery of the Season award following a stellar breakthrough campaign.

The Land Rover Discovery of The Season award is designed to recognise the most exciting young rugby players emerging during the 2020-21 campaign.

Players from Wasps, London Irish, Harlequins, Bristol Bears, Sale Sharks and Leicester Tigers have been recognised for establishing themselves in Gallagher Premiership Rugby throughout 2020-21, standing out by making a significant impact in the competition. In doing so, earning themselves a spot on the shortlist of nominees for this year’s Land Rover Discovery of The Season.

The winner will be announced on Thursday 17 June at the 2021 Premiership Rugby Awards, presented by Gallagher.

The full Land Rover Discovery of the Season shortlist is:

  • Alfie Barbeary (Wasps)
  • Ollie Hassell-Collins (London Irish)
  • Will Evans (Harlequins)
  • Ioan Lloyd (Bristol Bears)
  • Bevan Rodd (Sale Sharks)
  • Freddie Steward (Leicester Tigers)

Past winners include Sam Simmonds, Ellis Genge, Maro Itoje, Henry Slade, Billy Vunipola, Joe Launchbury, Owen Farrell, Manu Tuilagi, Ben Youngs, Jordan Turner-Hall, Danny Cipriani, Tom Rees, Tom Varndell and Ollie Smith.

Land Rover ambassador Lewis Moody said: “I’ve been really impressed with the number of talented young players emerge onto the Gallagher Premiership Rugby scene this season, and become immensely valuable to their teams.

“It’d be hard to leave all of the players on the shortlist out of any Premiership Rugby team of the year, and that’s testament to them for putting the hard work in and showcasing their potential.

“It just goes to show the strength in depth at clubs up and down the country at the moment, which is really exciting for all of us that are passionate about the sport.

“Many of the previous winners of this award have gone on to earn international honours, and I’m looking forward to seeing how all of the guys on the shortlist progress in years to come.”

The shortlist and winner was voted for by a panel of media professionals. The judges were: Ben Coles (Daily Telegraph), Duncan Bech (Press Association), Will Kelleher (Daily Mail), Nick Heath (Freelance), Gerard Meagher (The Guardian) and Kate Rowan (Daily Telegraph). The panel was chaired by Paul Morgan, Premiership Rugby's Communications Director.

Along with the winner of the Land Rover Discovery of the Season, the winners of the following awards will also be announced at the 2021 Premiership Rugby Awards, presented by Gallagher, which start on Monday 14 June, running through to Friday 18 June when we will announce the Gallagher Premiership Rugby Player of the Season. Next week in addition to Land Rover Discovery of the Season we will announce:

  • The Famous Grouse Try of the Season
