Assistant Coach Tom Lindsay cited the fine margins as the difference in the South West derby, but he was proud of the effort from the Bears Women squad in their narrow to defeat.
“It was an entertaining game, end-to-end stuff and there were some wonder performances from players on both teams.
“The girls put their absolute heart into that game, I could not question their effort – they worked so hard with physicality and tempo. This game really showed that it does come down to the little percentages here and there, and a little bit more to game management.
Individually there were some incredible performances today. Jaz Joyce is absolutely electric, she’s absolutely world-class – I have never seen a player like her.
Simi Pam put in an absolute shift today with some huge hit, and Alice Lockwood must have made about 100 tackles, like I said I am proud of the group and staff today.
“The way momentum can change and swing in a game is so important. Momentum changed a little too much on our behalf, but I still couldn’t question their intent.
“We don’t need to worry so much about what the opposition are doing. If we’re in our own half let’s just be smart and calm, go through the phases and then stick to our game plan. Whether that would be to pin the corner or keep them in their half, we just need to play in the right areas.
“We’ve panicked on a couple of occasions this afternoon and we’ve not kicked on our terms, so making sure we’ve got our forwards set, kickers are the right depth and then we execute.
