‘It’s a great feeling to be back out there’ – Martin

Bears Women winger Kyara Martin made a scoring return in her first Allianz Premier 15s game after 18 months out through injury.

Martin’s last-minute scores ensured the Bears claimed a valuable point in a tightly contested fixture in awful conditions against Lightning.

Reed’s pinpoint cross-field kick was gathered by the speedy winger, who managed to ‘do the rest of the work’ and beat the final defender before finishing from 40 metres out.

“It felt great to be back out there with the girls again after 18 months out. Reedo put a great ball across the pitch, and I managed to do the rest of the work.

“It’s a brilliant feeling to be back on the scoresheet and knowing it helped us get something from the game makes it even better.

“We were disappointed to go two tries down in the first ten minutes, but we showed a lot of heart in defence and managed to keep them out for the rest of the game.

“Everyone got through a lot of work throughout the game, especially the forwards. It was good to see us react in the way we did, as it could have easily gone the other way.

“It was difficult for both teams in the conditions and their fast start proved the difference in the end, which is frustrating, but we’ll learn from that and take it into next week.

“Bar the first ten minutes, we were on the front foot for a lot of the game and for the large majority you could argue that we were the better side, but things just didn’t quite stick for us in attack.

“We have a lot to work on, but there are also plenty of positives to take into the next game against Wasps.”
