‘It’s all about our mindset’ - Mayes

Daisie Mayes has urged her side to take confidence from their previous victory over Loughborough as the West Country outfit head into their final fixture of 2019.

“It’s definitely been a tough couple of weeks, but they’ve been lessons for us more than mistakes. There has been a good vibe and intensity in training this week and we’re looking forward to hopefully bouncing back against Loughborough.

“We know within ourselves that we have previously got the better of them and we’ve got to take confidence from our victory earlier on in the season - it’s all going to come down to our mindset on the day.

“We’ve also been boosted by the return of Amber Reed and Siwan Lillicrap, who are two big players for us and overall we’re really pulling together at the moment.

“It’s not only their experience that they bring to the table, they also give a lot of the group confidence as they’re international players and we’ve got them in our corner heading into a tough game.”

Mayes has had an impressive start to the 2019/20 campaign which has seen her flourish under forwards coach, Tom Lindsay and earn a place as a regular starter in the Tyrrells Premier 15s squad.

“The start of the season has been great for me. I feel like I’ve grown a lot in confidence and that is largely down to help of Tom Lindsay, he’s supported me and built my confidence up as forward and my all round game and it’s got me looking to the future now.

“I feel like I’m learning new things every time we’re training. I’m taking those learnings and applying them into the games at the weekend and really enjoying my rugby at the moment.”
