It's all to play for - Morahan

Luke Morahan insists the Bears ‘have it all to play for’ on their return to action, as they prepare to end a 160-day lay-off with a mouth-watering clash against Saracens at Ashton Gate on Saturday (4.30pm KO, live on BT Sport 1).

Trophies up for grabs

Sitting third in the Gallagher Premiership and with a European Challenge Cup quarter final to come in September, Morahan has urged his side to pick up where they left off before the lockdown and extend a five-game winning streak.

“We’ve got two trophies available to us in the next ten weeks, so that’s exciting and gives us motivation and direction,” he said.

“There are a lot of reasons why a fast start is important. We want to pick up where we left off before the break and with a lot of unknown about what could happen in the future, you want to be in the best position possible if there was to be another break.

“Pat (Lam) has been really good in keeping us motivated and there’s a combination of things that help – the new players coming in have given a lot of guys some extra motivation in their preparation, and we’ve got two trophies up for grabs and that’s exciting.

“But mainly, just being back playing rugby is motivation enough – it’s the longest period a lot of us have gone without playing rugby.”

Mouth-watering clash

Saracens sit bottom of the pile following their points deduction but have earned the second most league points in the Gallagher Premiership this season – and Morahan is expecting a huge test against the reigning domestic and European champions.

“I think people will be watching this game with a lot of excitement for many reasons. Saracens have been the benchmark for a long time and although they’ve lost a few players, they’ve still got that strong core of George, Itoje, Farrell, and so have we.

“It’ll be an interesting game because it will show how well teams have come through the lockdown. We want to continue that five-game winning streak and I think this game will be a great one for the fans.”
