Join the Community Foundation’s #BrizzleyBeatz campaign

Following on from its recent success, Bristol Bears Community Foundation’s inclusion team continues to develop its inclusive dance opportunities, with a series of recorded videos found online at the inclusion team (Spectrum’s) YouTube channel.

Utilised with over 400 programme participants per week, the #BrizzleyBeatz dance routines support physical engagement, cognitive stimulation and communication – as well as being great fun!

Deployed in special education settings, dementia care facilities, retirement villages and community sports groups alike – the dances have evolved to be a core part of Spectrum’s inclusive provision over recent times, but this has come as no surprise to the team behind the dances.

“Our Brizzley Beatz seated dances are one of the most inclusive and engaging things we do. From community coaches to school staff, young people with autism to older people living with dementia we have seen the health and wellbeing benefits with every single music beat and dance action,” said Spectrum programme manager Kris Tavender.

“We know the value of a pulse raiser and a social opportunity for general physical and mental well-being, but it is so much more than that. Music is such a sensory unifier, and as soon as the beat gets going, the feet start tapping and the smiles start twitching!

“But more than that, the impact on communication, focus and subsequent engagement in participants with some of the most challenging physical and learning needs in the city has been undeniable.”

Combining old and new songs alike, and a few of the more obscure, #BrizzleyBeatz allows all physical abilities to join together through its simple seated structure. Harnessing a range of expectations simultaneously, the dances encourage sensory immersion, body percussion, physical actions and vocal elements to allow appropriate access points for all involved.

Tavender added: “We are really keen to see our wider fanbase get behind this, which is why we brought the club mascot Brizzley Bear in himself and recorded our latest routines across Ashton Gate Stadium.

“We want to see children and adults, young and old all getting moving and smiling together, and with Brizzley showing you the moves there is no excuse-show us what you got!”

To further add incentive, Bristol Bears Community Foundation are giving away tickets to the Gallagher Premiership fixture versus Harlequins on Sunday, March 8th for the best renditions of their songs by Bears fans.
