Jordan Lay handed start for Japan clash

Jordan Lay will make his maiden start at the Rugby World Cup after being named in Steve Jackson's side, alongside Chris Vui and Alapati Leiua, for Samoa's clash with Japan on Saturday.

Lay is one of six changes to the starting side, with three in both the backline and the pack.

Lay, Seilala Lam and Piula Fa'asalele all rotate into the starting tight five, with Ray Niuia the only of the replaced trio to remain on the bench.

A new halves pairing of Dwayne Polataivao and Ulupano Seutini, with the latter getting the starting role ahead of Tusi Pisi for this match in a straight swap.

The return of Ahsee Tuala on the right wing completes the changes, with Belgium Tuatagaloa dropping out of the side. James Lay and Vaito'asa Senio Toleafoa join the bench.

Samoa: Tim Nanai-Williams; Ah See Tuala, Alapati Leiua, Henry Taefu, Ed Fidow; Ulupano Seuteni, Dwayne Polataivao; Jordan Lay, Seilala Lam, Michael Alaalatoa, Piula Faasalele, Kane Le’aupepe, Chris Vui, TJ Ioane, Jack Lam (capt). Replacements: Ray Niuia, Paul Alo-Emile, James Lay, Senio Toleafoa, Josh Tyrell, Pele Cowley, Tusi Pisi, Kieron Fonotia.
